He has coupled traditional percussion with state of the art technology, using the latest Roland electronic equipment. He has again been in Ibiza this summer, as well as playing a host of gigs around the world - he will without doubt blow you away. We were lucky enough too get a chance to get to know him a bit before he performs at our up coming event at the Scala. “Poisoned Republic”

(NOVEMBER 2008)

Hi Ian thank you for taking the time out your busy schedule to talk to us before you play for us on the 22nd.

Justin Q.1. So Ian can you tell us a bit about yourself, like how you got into being a percussionist?

Ian A.1. “Three things really, a real passion for music, fear of a 9-5 job and a delicious combination of luck and determination.”

Justin Q.2. Who or what were your biggest influences during the early stages of your career?

Ian A.2. “Clichéd as it is, my mother for supporting and encouraging me to try, oh and putting double glazing in! I started playing acoustic drums and played in bands, I then learnt hand percussion, moving on to electronics. I have always liked all types of music, from blues to dance, as long as its good it has had an impact on me. ”

Justin Q.3. You spend a lot of time in the studio recording and producing, are there any releases can we look out for in the coming future?

Ian A.3. “After the reasonable success of my first album ‘Vagabonds Disco’ I’ve been encouraged to spend a lot of time in the studio. I will be spending the winter working on a few joint projects and one longer solo project, and some new and exciting kit”

Justin Q.4. We hear that you are currently developing a few ideas in the studio with both audio and video projects care to let slip as to any clues to what you are cooking up?

Ian A.4. “Difficult to say really! I see images while I play and produce, I’m working on how I can share those with an audience”

Justin Q.5. You have recently finished the tour of Asia with Hed Kandi, how does the Asian club scene compare to the U.K Scene?

Ian A.5. “I’ve been to China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong this year for Hed Kandi and unsurprisingly they are as different to each other as they are to us. Our different cultures, languages and scenes are obviously diverse but the music seems to be the glue that makes dancing and having a good time the common denominator. Oh and the Japanese love anything with a piano!”

Justin Q.6. So Ian you spent yet another summer on the shores of Ibiza. When you were asked to do a bi-weekly with Mr.Doris in El Salon at Space and perform with Ibiza and House music legend Alfredo on the sunset terrace. What were you thoughts going through your head during this period?

Ian A.6. “Oh s**t for one moment, from there, really really proud to be honest. Proud of myself for performing at one of the best clubs in the world and for making those around me proud too. It’s a big deal for me, Doris has brought me back to some of my musical roots and he’s a joy to work with, we’ve got a season under our belts and read each other really well. I have been lucky to become friends with Alfredo this summer and he’s made me rethink my approach to what and how I play. A summer to never forget and the benchmark for 2009!”

Justin Q.7. You had an extremely busy summer in the Mediterranean with your tight schedule between Ibiza and Egypt alike. Is there an event that you did that really stands out from the rest and why?

Ian A.7. “My first Sunset Terrace set with Alfredo at Space without a doubt. A landmark gig when you’re playing at your favorite club and a musical moment you never thought would happen”

Justin Q.8. So what can we expect from you on the 22nd of November at the Scala, any tricks up your sleeve to wow the crowd?

Ian A.8. “An armory of 300 plus sounds for starters and not forgetting my favorite silver mankini!”

Justin Q.9. Ian if you had a top ten list of things that you still want to do in career, what would be the top three?

Ian A.9. Play at the Albert Hall, Play with BB King and give my mum back the money for the double glazing”

Justin Q.10. Well thank you so much again Ian I know myself the rest of the Poisoned Republic crew and all our faithful followers can not wait to hear you play on the 22nd.

Ian A.10. “You are totally welcome. I’m really looking forward to getting very involved!”
